Jealousy in Othello and o
Shakespeare's representation of the central value jealousy is depicted through the technique of characterization. Shakespeare uses Iago as a catalyst of jealousy, and how Iago's jealousy lures Othello to fall in to this category as well. The jealous character of Iago is justified through these quotes:
Iago's 'hatred for the Moor' proves how jealous Iago is perceived in the text. Furthermore, Iago mentions that Othello has 'twixt his sheets, and done his office, i know not if't be true'. The quote defines as Iago mentioning that Othello has slept with his wife. This shows how Iago visualizes Othello, being sexually overactive, no matter even if Othello did not commit any crime. This reinforces the Elizabethan context of how Europeans perceived Africans as sexually overactive and wicked personalities. Furthermore, Shakespeare enforces the technique of soliloquy to show the audience how Iago develops the crime of jealousy by causing others to fall into it as well. Iago indicates, using the technique of metaphor that he 'will lead him (Othello) by his nose' so that Iago loses his trust on Desdemona, by 'planting the seed' of jealousy in Othello as well. However, Shakespeare shows this value, of jealousy, in Othello as well. After 'planting the seed of jealousy' in Othello, the audience realize a change in Othello's emotions towards Desdemona. Iago emphasizes, to Othello, 'O, beware, my lord of jealousy: it is the green eyed monster', this portrays how Othello is in the process of being brainwashed. Othello claims that 'tis not to make me jealous', however as Iago deepens his spread of poison, Othello demands that 'I'll see before I, when I doubt, prove: And on the proof, there is no more but this, away at once with love or jealousy'. Othello's demand show how his suspicions and doubts causes jealousy towards Desdemona and Cassio.
- 'I'am serving under him to take advantage of him'; This shows how Iago's jealousy has led him to take advantage of the man who he hates and envies, Othello.
- 'I'am not what I'am': Here Iago clearly states to Othello that he is not what he is. Iago Appears to be the 'Honest' person that he is. But in reality his deceptive actions portray him as a jealous human.

context
Othello, being the 'Moor', doesn't fit into the Venetian context as he is different. Othello's false accusation of Desdemona sleeping with someone else shows how the society portrayed and feared their spouses cheating on them. Furthermore, we see how the differences in class contribute to the level of jealousy initiated in a person. Iago, being the lower status, doesn't care whether Emilia has slept with anyone. However, Othello, being a noble of the society, knows that his respect is depended on his reputation. Othello, being brainwashed, shows how his respect is being lost and therefore rages at Desdemona. The differences in Othello and Iago is in deed reflected by status and therefore we see how Shakespeare shows where the central value began from.
jealousy in o
Similarly, Shakespeare's central value of jealousy is also illustrated in the film 'O'. However, Tim Nelson uses a variety of different techniques and language, due to the change of context, to visualize the value of jealousy. Tim uses his technical directions to show how Hugo is clearly depicted as a jealous Character. The long shot After the basketball match, the team celebrates with the hero Odin, who was the great cause of the win, and the audience immediately realize that Hugo isn't involved in the celebration. Instead, the viewers see that Hugo has deliberately left himself outside, enviously staring at Odin showing his evil and jealous character. This is further elaborated through the use of dialogue. Hugo is visibly upset when he is not honored the "Most Valuable Player" and that his father appreciates and supports Odin more than him. In addition to this, Nelson's use of close up shows how Iago is deeply portrayed as a jealous human. Hugo admits to his own jealousy in the gym. The Close up shows the audience how the value focuses on Hugo and eventually he admits that "I know your not the jealous type...I am". The value of jealousy is also evident as Nelson allows the audience to hear for themselves through the technique of soliloquy , as Hugo mentions that "I know your not supposed to be jealous of anything, but to take the flight, to soar above everything, now that's living". Here Iago again clearly admits that he was jealous as it would've took him to the top. Iago's jealousy helps build up this central value in Odin as well. The use of slow motion and sound in the 'Slam Dunk' competition shows how Odin has been heavily affected by Hugo's jealousy. Odin's jealousy towards Mike and Desi's relationship is shown through his frustration. As Odin Slams the basketball ring into the ground it symbolizes how Odin's "life is over". The ring is symbolic of the letter 'O' which symbolizes the destruction of 'O' as the ring is destroyed as well. This action shows the frustration, determination and wickedness behind Odin's jealousy.
Context
Here the context is reflected at America's present situation. The youth is familiar with the Respect earned in Basketball and realize why Hugo is jealous as he isn't gaining the fame. Nowadays, adolescence are believed to be hot-headed and therefore their emotions are affected immediately. We can see this as Odin without any senses or deep clues rages at Desi suddenly without her knowing
